Open Call • Monumental Crafts 2027
Craft artists based in Norway and Denmark are invited to apply for Monumental Crafts – a major Nordic collaboration between Konsthantverkscentrum and Ifö Center. The project features a group exhibition and an artist residency in spring/summer 2027. Submit your application for one or both opportunities by October 15.
Monumental Crafts is a project dedicated to highlighting, presenting, and sharing knowledge about professional contemporary craft, with a focus on large-scale work. The project includes a group exhibition featuring 15 artists from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, alongside a residency for three craft makers seeking to work in larger formats and spaces. Monumental Crafts is led by Ifö Center together with Konsthantverkscentrum, in collaboration with Norwegian Crafts and the Danish Crafts & Design Association.

Apply for both the exhibition and the residency, or for just one of them. This project is aimed at artists interested in working on a monumental scale. You may apply with completed monumental works or pieces that can be scaled up through volume or size. All material disciplines are welcome. The selection will be made by representatives from Ifö Center and Konsthantverkscentrum alongside partner organizations. Monumental Crafts is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund, the Swedish Arts Council, and Region Skåne. Please note: Separate application forms are used for the exhibition and the residency.
About Ifö Center
Located at the historic Iföverken site in northeastern Skåne, Ifö Center is an artist-run hub spanning 43,000 m2 of a former industrial facility. It serves as an international meeting point for artists, craft makers, performers, and musicians. The site is divided into public and private areas across an active industrial zone. Visitors can access exhibitions and Open Studios at the Ifö Center Art Hall – housed in a former concrete clay warehouse with 8–10 meter ceilings – or tour the outdoor gallery featuring large-scale street art murals.
Facilities & Equipment
Resident workspaces are customized per project. The vast industrial halls feature up to 10-meter ceilings, overhead cranes, and forklifts for heavy-duty, large-scale production. Available equipment and workshops include:
- Ceramics & Sculpture: 3 kilns (up to a 750L car kiln), slip-casting, clay pugmill, potter’s wheels, slab roller, plaster/modeling shop, concrete mixer.
- Textiles & Craft: Large weaving studio, plant weaving/basketry area, lacemaking pillows, sewing machines.
- Metal, Wood & Print: Silversmithing shop, welding room, metal chop saw, woodworking machinery, printmaking presses, paper-making tools.
- Media & Other: Recording studio, tile cutters.
Sustainability & Accommodation
The center maintains strict eco-conscious practices; toxic or hazardous materials are strictly prohibited. Residents have access to reclaimed industrial materials (e.g., scrap metal, cardboard, pulp, starch) from neighboring factories. Accommodations are provided in a nearby house featuring private bedrooms alongside a shared kitchen, living room, porch, and garden.

The Monumental Crafts exhibition takes place from May 8 to August 21, 2027, featuring monumental works by fifteen professional craft artists from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark at Ifö Center Art Hall.
Exhibition Details & Terms
- Exhibition period: May 8 – August 21, 2027

- Submissions: Up to 3 works per application.
- Artist Fee: 5,000 SEK (+ VAT) per artist, paid in accordance with the MU Agreement. Please note: Awarding of the fee is subject to eligibility criteria set by Sveriges Konstföreningar (The National Association of Swedish Art Societies). Read the full guidelines PDF here.
- Covered Expenses: Artwork transport, travel costs for the opening, and local accommodation during the opening event.
- Insurance: Full coverage during the exhibition period.

Text: Provide the title, material, dimensions, weight, and insurance value for each work, along with a brief description of what you wish to convey to the exhibition audience. Describe how the work should be mounted and displayed (e.g., horizontal, vertical, hanging, or any special instructions). Tip! Monumental Crafts • Artist residency & solo exhibition
Three craft artists – one each from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark – are offered an artist residency at Ifö Center for up to eight weeks during the spring and summer of 2027. As a resident, you gain access to a well-equipped shared workshop, vast workspaces, and an open studio to create large-scale and monumental works. Ifö Center provides accommodation near the factory site, featuring private bedrooms with a shared kitchen. Following the residency period, the newly created monumental works will be showcased in three solo exhibitions at Ifö Center Art Hall.

Ifö Center är ett konstnärsdrivet kulturhus vid Ivösjön i Bromölla, i nordöstra Skåne. De förfogar över 43 000 kvadratmeter i en gammal keramikfabrik och fungerar som en projektplattform för kreativt skapande.
I de välutrustade kollektivverkstäderna finns bland annat keramikugnar, kavelbord, lerkvarn, drejskivor, betongblandare, kakelskärare, fusing-ugn, metallkapsåg, grafikpress, snickerimaskiner och snickarbänkar, symaskiner, vävstolar och knyppelutrustning. I fabrikslokalerna finns gott om golvyta för storskaliga projekt samt tillgång till taktravers. För projekt som kräver svetsning eller hög takhöjd finns ytterligare två stora hallar i markplan mellan fabriken och Ifö Center Konsthall.
Kollektivet har öppnat upp det tidigare helt slutna industriområdet Iföverken för kultur och turism. Besökare kan ta del av utställningar på Ifö Center Konsthall samt utforska det ständigt växande utomhusgalleriet, där storskaliga muralmålningar pryder fabriksfasaderna. Konstnärerna arrangerar regelbundet kurser, workshops för olika åldrar samt guidade visningar.
